Movie Plot
Tej goes to jail for killing a person to protect a child. A teenager works for 7 years at home. As an adult, Tej is a singer in a crazy boys band. Tej is very fond of his family. He breaks out of the family as he breaks against his sister’s marriage within the family and goes against family values. Tries to live with his so-called musician uncle. She sees Nandini lovingly at first sight as she arrives to fulfill her mother’s final wish. What is his mother’s last wish? The film is a regular love story that we have seen before. But there are some twists that viewers have not seen before in regular films.
Movie Review
Logic often goes for a toss when making movies in mainstream cinema. Until now, audiences have been programmed to watch movies and present them purely for entertainment, and logic or even basic common sense is not expected. But take the entertainment value away from a film that lacks common sense and would seem plain silly – which really comes across A Karunakaran’s Tej I Love You. A film that is at least 10 years before its expiration date, Tej I Love You is suppressed and mediocre.
Unilateral love stories are not new to Tollywood. In this instance, Tej (Sai Dharam Tej) falls for Nandini (Anupama Parameswaran), a careless but mischievous girl who makes life miserable for him. Nandini first assures Tej that she is blind, and when she realizes that it is all a dispute, she convinces him that she is the daughter of the police commissioner. Tej also takes care of the animals and gives oil massage to an old person at the behest of Nandini.
All this is done by attempting to invoke laughter but comes across as repulsive. There are other underlying stories, which are revealed in a predictable way. At the age of 10, Tej rescues a woman from two men by hitting her with a rock. The woman fled to London leaving the little boys who tried to rape her. He miraculously takes two men who are twice his size and kills them and is then sent to prison for this. The London-bound woman wishes to help the boy, who saved his life.

There is also a family drama. Our protagonist, as is often the case in Telugu films, is an apple of the eye to the entire family, but is driven out of his home due to misunderstandings, causing a rift in his entire family. Writing is just lazy. It seems that they have taken three to four old scripts and improperly sharpened them to make I love you. Zero effort has been made to keep the audience interested or to offer something new.
For all the hype about Sai Dharam Tej, who plays the guitar in the film – the track where he keeps playing the guitar, because it is a member of a fictional band. The way the scenes are revealed – especially the seemingly life-changing events, is shown in an amateurish way. This makes it difficult for viewers to root for Sai Dharam Tej, who seems entangled throughout the film. Anupama looks radiant, but it does not happen many times. The only saving grace in this film is the music of Gopi Sundar, which keeps you somewhat interested, though the timing of the lyrics is terrific.
Add a village fight scene, a crying family scene and an airport climax – and you get the picture. Director Karunakaran made a splash in Tollywood as a love story writer-filmmaker with Tholi Prema. Twenty years later, however, he is still stuck with a ‘sutra’ of working cinema in the 1990s. In 2018, all of you have a lifeless love story. As a viewer, you want something more than that.
