Movie Review
Every once in a while, our Tamil filmmakers stumble across a forgotten or dying ancient art form and come up with a film that glorifies it and brings it to public consciousness – even if only for a while. Along with Pattas, Durai Senthilkumar wants to do for the less-heard Adimurai of Tamil Nadu’s traditional martial arts form, which Indians did for Vermakalai and 7aum Arivu did for Bodhi Dharman. But the problem is that he is overcome by the novelty of Adimurai, and gives us a formulaic action drama that is predictable from beginning to end. Forget the plot structure and scenery, even the lines here hold no surprises.
Director Pattas-Sadhana spends too much time on the track, which is not as fun as he would like. There is no chemistry between the two, in which Mahrin’s acting is lifeless and Kishore’s role in Dhanush’s youthful antics. And even the part that follows the film’s big revelation lacks influence. Even the game that we associate with the sports film genre lacks MMA competition scenes, in which the lack of Petta knocks out opponents. After a strong performance in Kodi, it is surprising that Durai Senthilkumar went into his Kashi Satai form and gave us this strap without any bang.
