Aruvi is a brilliantly written drama centered around a unique character. That turns out to be a thriller, a black comedy, an awareness film, and a tragedy. The film so effortlessly appeals to the crowd – and also moves tremendously. It is one of the most traditional films of recent times by Aditi Balan. This is definitely one of the most brilliantly acted debuts Tamil cinema has seen in a while. And Aditi beautifully realizes the complex nature of the character without having to work hard to make her Aruvi dear. Even in the final parts, when there are sad tones, the actress does not resort to melodrama and plays a role in a fact-by-manner manner.
The director allows the siege to be played in almost real-time, even making us feel that the part is going awry. But narrowing and expanding these time-frames really helps to disappoint viewers and doesn’t let us guess what will happen next. Bindu Malini and Vedanta Bharadwaj, Shelley Callist’s exquisite cinematography and Raymond Derrick Crystal’s precise editing of the lyrics and the precise feel of the lyrics make it feel like it’s a bit far-fetched.
